SMALL GROUP ACTIVITY

ICEBREAKER

Have you or someone in your family ever messed up a recipe? What happened?

MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY

Pickle (Word-by-Word Elimination)
1) Have all the kids stand up in a circle.

2) Going clockwise, each student says exactly one word of the
verse in order.

3)The student who says the very last word of the verse then
turns to the next person in line and says "Pickle!" (or any fun word of
your choice). The person who gets "pickled" must sit down. Start the
verse over with the next standing student. Keep going until only one
player is left standing.

SMALL GROUP GAME/ACTIVITY:

Focus Needs More Focus
1) Stand in front of the class and give the kids 30 seconds to look at you and memorize every detail of your appearance (what you're wearing, how your hair is styled, jewelry, etc.).

2) Step out of the room, or briefly get out of sight for 15 seconds.

3) Change 3 small things about your appearance. (For example: roll up one sleeve, take off your watch, move a pen to your pocket, part your hair differently, or untie a shoe).

4) Step back into view and see who can spot the three changes first.

The goal of the activity is to say, we should be focused on what is important.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

READ MATTHEW 6:19-21
READ COLOSSIANS 3:1-4
What are some things that people might think are treasures on earth?

Why aren’t those things important to God?

What do you think Jesus meant by treasures in Heaven?

What did Jesus mean when He said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also?”

What habits could you build to help you focus on what God thinks is important?
